Meet the Maker: Bridgewire

As the 2nd annual Reno Mini Maker Faire approaches we would like to feature just a few of the amazing makers who will be sharing their projects, knowledge, and passion with everyone.

Today we’re featuring a maker from the amazing Bridgewire makerspace!

1. My name is Craig Bergland and I am a maker at Bridgewire, Reno’s oldest member-supported makerspace.

2. My maker superpower is: using the energy of the Sun.

3. I am inspired by: the huge amount of BTU’s hitting our earth’s surface daily.  I am also inspired by visionaries, including Bucky Fuller, Nikola Tesla, Farrington Daniels, and other heroes of the past.

4. The most exciting project I ever worked on was: the Lenten Desert Experience, at the Nevada Test Site (Mercury) in the early 1980’s.  I was part of the support group, and also one of the group who with the Franciscans was given the ‘official’ tour of the Test Site.

Meet the Maker: Shari Vedovato

As the 2nd annual Reno Mini Maker Faire approaches we would like to feature just a few of the amazing makers who will be sharing their projects, knowledge, and passion with everyone.

Today we’re featuring a brilliant local computer imaging software engineer named Shari Vedovato!

*And her amazing new Lego robotics camera is on Kickstarter now! Head on over and support the project!*

1. My name is  Shari Vedovato and I’m a Computer Imaging Software Engineer from Truckee and formerly from the Bay area.
 
2. My maker superpower is: Creating products that inspire kids to build something awesome!
 
3. I’m inspired by: What kids can create.  They have no limits and if you give them the right tools they can build awesome things.
 
4. The most exciting project I have worked on was: RoboSnap which is a camera that provides vision to Lego mindstorms based robotics platforms.  This is what I’ll be showing at the Reno Maker Faire.

Meet the Maker: Kristen Ashbaugh-Helmreich

As the 2nd annual Reno Mini Maker Faire approaches we would like to feature just a few of the amazing makers who will be sharing their projects, knowledge, and passion with everyone.

Today we’re featuring the amazing Kristen Ashbaugh-Helmreich from Jimmy Beans Wool!

  1. My name is Kristen (Ashbaugh-Helmreich) and I’m a knitter & knitwear designer from Jimmy Beans Wool.

 

  1. My maker superpower is: I design knitted garments and accessories and can whip up items on the fly…no pattern needed!

 

  1. I’m inspired by: Nature. Many of my designs are inspired by places and things in Northern Nevada.

 

  1. The most exciting project I have worked on was: A blanket inspired by Olympic Gold & Silver Medal Skier, Tommy Moe. We did a collaborative book project with the US Ski & Snowboard Teams a couple of years ago and I was chosen to design something for Tommy. It was this huge blanker with the Spyder Logo stitch onto it. Imagine stitching a huge black widow spider onto a blanket. It was a true test of patience for me, but it turned out awesome and looked really stunning and dramatic once photographed. Did I mention I made two of these? One to give to Tommy and one for the book. Yeah. Patience. 🙂

Meet the Maker: Nellie Davis

As the 2nd annual Reno Mini Maker Faire approaches we would like to feature just a few of the amazing makers who will be sharing their projects, knowledge, and passion with everyone.

Today we’re featuring the amazing Nellie Davis from Outsiders Studio!

1. My name is Nellie Davis and I’m a hair artist from Outsiders Hair Studio.
 
2. My maker superpower is: vision. 
 
3. I’m inspired by: texture, color, nature, urban art, you name it. I see beauty in so much around me and try to interpret that in my own work.
 
4. The most exciting project I have worked on was: having the opportunity to participate in the Main Entrance Artists session in New York. Surrounding myself with other high caliber artists really inspires me to work at that level and have free reign of my creativity. 
*Look for Nellie at her booth doing some amazing hands-on braiding workshops! She’s also giving a great talk on trends, fashion, and the type of making she knows best!

Meet the Maker: The MasterDabbler

As the 2nd annual Reno Mini Maker Faire approaches we would like to feature just a few of the amazing makers who will be sharing their projects, knowledge, and passion with everyone.

Today we’re featuring the Curiosity Czar from MasterDabbler!

1. My name is Francine and I’m the Curiosity Czar from MasterDabbler.

2. My maker superpower is: multi-tasking!

3. I’m inspired by: Holland Project, ELCord School at NMA, Prism Magic, Picasso and Wine, and more. I love seeing passion shared and seeing Makers in Training. It’s thrilling to see someone take on painting or tie dye, just because. You don’t have to be “talented,” just get in there and try something…you may discover your inner maker.

4. The most exciting project I have worked on was: It’s always the next idea bouncing in my head while I’m finishing a project.

Meet the Maker: AC/DC Bike Camp

As the 2nd annual Reno Mini Maker Faire approaches we would like to feature just a few of the amazing makers who will be sharing their projects, knowledge, and passion with everyone.

Today we’re featuring Alexa and Kevin, co-directors of the AC/DC Bike Camp!

1. We are Alexa and Kevin and we are the directors of AC/DC Bike Camp in Reno.

2. Our maker superpower is: Making fun appear out of the ground by riding an electric bike on it and teaching mobile casino others how to ride and maintain their bikes.

3. We”re inspired by: The Great Outdoors.

4. The most exciting project we have worked on was: Creating a fun outdoor bike camp!

Meet the Maker: Volant Productions

As the 2nd annual Reno Mini Maker Faire approaches we would like to feature just a few of the amazing makers who will be sharing their projects, knowledge, and passion with everyone.

Today we’re featuring Ryan McMaster and his drones at Volant Productions!

1. My name is Ryan McMaster and I am a Professional UAV pilot/builder from Reno, NV.

2. My maker superpower is: I can fly and build just about any UAV.

3. I am inspired by: making life easier and safer for everyone around me.

4. The most exciting project I’ve worked on was: Using UAV systems to map out critical infrastructure and assist in the maintenance of it.

Meet the Maker: FTC Robotics

As the 2nd annual Reno Mini Maker Faire approaches we would like to feature just a few of the amazing makers who will be sharing their projects, knowledge, and passion with everyone.

This week we are featuring The Enterprisers, a local FTC robotics team!

1. We are the 5326 Enterprisers and we are an FTC robotics team located in Reno and compete in competitions all over the western U.S. and competed in the World Championship in St. Louis, MO.

2. Our maker superpower is: We build and program robots and teach other how to do just that!

3. We’re inspired by: Wanting to help others learn about robots and the FIRST program.

4. The most exciting project we’ve worked on was: Building and programming a robot that made it to the World Championships.

Meet the Maker: Guy Johnson

As the 2nd annual Reno Mini Maker Faire approaches we would like to feature just a few of the amazing makers who will be sharing their projects, knowledge, and passion with everyone.

Today we’re featuring Guy Johnson and his amazing bikes!

1. My name is Catalyst and I’m a Maker from Reno. [When I am not creating things, my name is Guy Johnson and I’m a real estate agent from Reno.]

3. I’m inspired by: Black Rock City

4. The most exciting project I have worked on was: Chupacabra – fat-tire chopper bicycle
